چکیده

Abstract We present a formal quantum mechanical analysis of the communication protocol of Prevedel et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 106, 110505 (2011)], in which entanglement shared by sender and receiver is used to enhance, beyond that achievable via the optimal classical strategy, the probability of successful transmission of a bit through a particular noisy classical channel N . We provide a full analysis of this protocol when the shared entanglement resides in a two-qubit system. Our analysis shows the measurement choices specified by the protocol yield the maximum possible enhancement of the probability of successful communication of the bit with one use of the channel N . We determine that shared entanglement residing in a two-qudit system with d > 2 cannot provide enhancement beyond that produced by entangled qubits. Finally, we show how the protocol should be extended when probability parameters for the channel N are allowed to vary.

Entanglement-Assisted Classical Capacity of Noisy Quantum Channels

Prior entanglement between sender and receiver, which exactly doubles the classical capacity of a noiseless quantum channel, can increase the classical capacity of some noisy quantum channels by an arbitrarily large constant factor depending on the channel, relative to the best known classical capacity achievable without entanglement. The enhancement factor is greatest for very noisy channels, ...

Entanglement-Enhanced Classical Communication on a Noisy Quantum Channel

We consider the problem of trying to send a single classical bit through a noisy quantum channel when two transmissions through the channel are available as a resource. Classically, two transmissions add nothing to the receiver’s capability of inferring the bit. In the quantum world, however, one has the possible further advantage of entangling the two transmissions. We demonstrate that, for ce...

Sequential, successive, and simultaneous decoders for entanglement-assisted classical communication

Bennett et al. showed that allowing shared entanglement between a sender and receiver before communication begins dramatically simplifies the theory of quantum channels, and these results suggest that it would be worthwhile to study other scenarios for entanglement-assisted classical communication. In this vein, the present paper makes several contributions to the theory of entanglement-assiste...

One shot entanglement assisted classical and quantum communication over noisy quantum channels: A hypothesis testing and convex split approach

Capacity of a quantum channel characterizes the limits of reliable communication through a noisy quantum channel. This fundamental information theoretic question is very well studied specially in the setting of many independent uses of the channel. An important scenario, both from practical and conceptual point of view, is when the channel can be used only once. This is known as the one-shot ch...

Public and private resource trade-offs for a quantum channel

Collins and Popescu realized a powerful analogy between several resources in classical and quantum information theory. The Collins-Popescu analogy states that public classical communication, private classical communication, and secret key interact with one another somewhat similarly to the way that classical communication, quantum communication, and entanglement interact. This paper discusses t...
